The Science of Manifestation
Manifestation has become an increasingly popular topic in recent years. As someone who values both spirituality and personal growth, I’ve become more intentional about exploring how our thoughts, beliefs, and inner world influence the reality we experience.
Many spiritual teachings describe multiple Laws of the Universe that explain how our internal state interacts with the external world. Such as the law of vibration, the law of correspondence, the law of cause and effect, etc. While each of these offers its own perspective, two of the most widely discussed principles are the Law of Attraction and the Law of Assumption.
In this article, I want to explore these two laws while also looking at the psychological and scientific ideas that may help explain why manifestation can be so powerful.
What Is Manifestation?
Manifestation is the idea that our inner world influences our outer experiences. The thoughts we repeatedly think, the beliefs we hold, and the expectations we carry can shape the way we move through life and the outcomes we create.
In spirituality, manifestation is often described as the process of aligning your thoughts, emotions, and beliefs with the reality you want to experience. It goes beyond simply wishing for something to happen. Instead, it involves embodying the mindset and internal state that reflects the life you desire. Thoughts influence beliefs, beliefs shape behavior, and behavior affects results. The way we see ourselves and the world around us naturally guides our decisions, actions, and the opportunities we notice.
This is where principles like the Law of Attraction and the Law of Assumption come into play, offering different perspectives on how our internal state may influence what unfolds in our lives.
The Law of Attraction
The Law of Attraction is one of the most widely known principles connected to manifestation. Dating back to the 19th and 20th centuries, it was later popularized through the book The Secretby Rhonda Byrne in 2006. This was actually first introduced to me through my parents when I was younger. The core idea is simple: like attracts like. The thoughts we focus on and the emotions we repeatedly experience influence what we draw into our lives.
Many modern scientists and thought leaders have explored ideas related to the Law of Attraction, blending spirituality with neuroscience. Dr. Joe Dispenza, for example, studies how thoughts and emotions can physically change the brain through neuroplasticity, demonstrating how focused intention can influence behavior and perception. Other voices in this space, like Bruce Lipton, emphasize how beliefs affect our biology and gene expression, connecting consciousness with real-world outcomes. Also known as Epigenetics.
The Law of Attraction encourages focusing on what you want instead of what you fear or lack. The same applies vice-versa: when your attention is on scarcity, you attract more scarcity into your life. Practices such as visualization, journaling, gratitude, and affirmations are commonly used to support this shift in focus. The goal is to cultivate a mindset and emotional state that aligns with the reality you want to create.
From a spiritual perspective, the Law of Attraction teaches that the energy we embody internally can shape what we experience externally.
Psychology also offers insight into why these practices can feel effective. When attention is consistently directed toward certain goals or possibilities, the mind becomes more aware of opportunities, patterns, and choices connected to them. (More on this later) Over time, this shift in perception can influence the actions we take and the direction our lives move in.
While the Law of Attraction highlights the importance of thoughts and emotional energy, another concept—the Law of Assumption—goes even deeper into the role of belief in shaping reality.
The Law of Assumption
The Law of Assumption was popularized by Neville Goddard, a metaphysician and author from the mid-20th century. He taught that the reality we experience is directly shaped by what we assume to be true, and that by consciously living in alignment with those assumptions, we can bring them into existence. In the words of Neville Goddard: “Assume you are that which you wish to be; walk as though you were it; and as you remain faithful to your assumption, it will harden into fact.”
At its heart, this law is a kind of “fake it till you make it” principle. By fully assuming a desired outcome or identity—whether it’s confidence, success, or abundance—you begin to think, feel, and act as if it’s already true. Over time, your internal state influences your decisions, behaviors, and the opportunities you notice, making the external manifestation of that reality more likely.
From a scientific perspective, the Law of Assumption aligns with how beliefs shape perception and behavior. The brain naturally seeks evidence that confirms what we assume to be true, and our actions tend to follow the identities and outcomes we consistently hold in mind. In essence, embodying your assumptions trains both your mind and your behavior to support the reality you desire! How amazing is that?!
By focusing first on internal alignment rather than chasing external results, the Law of Assumption offers a powerful, practical approach to manifestation that blends spiritual insight with psychological principles.
The Brain and Manifestation
Manifestation isn’t just a spiritual concept—it also has a strong connection to how the brain works. Our thoughts, beliefs, and assumptions influence the way we perceive the world, notice opportunities, and take action.
One key player in this process is the Reticular Activating System (RAS), a network in the brain that filters information and determines what we pay attention to. When you focus on certain goals or outcomes, your RAS highlights related opportunities and possibilities, making them more visible in your daily life. Whatever you focus on, your brain begins to seek out. Dreaming of a new car? You’ll start noticing cars of that same brand and model all around you. This applies to everything. In your favor or against you. If your attention is on a personal flaw, your mind will keep finding more evidence that confirms it. Trust me, I’ve personally learned all of this the hard way.
Another important concept is neuroplasticity. Repeated thoughts and beliefs create stronger neural pathways, which means the patterns you focus on most—whether of confidence, abundance, or success—become easier for your brain to follow. Over time, these mental habits shape behavior and influence the results you experience. I touch more on neuroplasticity here.
Finally, expectation plays a powerful role. When you truly believe in a certain outcome, your brain begins to notice evidence that supports it and guides your actions accordingly. In this way, manifestation practices like visualization, affirmations, and assumption-based thinking aren’t just symbolic—they help train your brain to align with the reality you want to create.
The Role of Emotion and the Nervous System
Emotions play a powerful role in manifestation. They act as a signal to the brain, amplifying the patterns we focus on and influencing the way we perceive and respond to the world. When you feel positive emotions like joy, gratitude, or confidence, your mind is more open to possibilities and solutions. Negative emotions like fear, frustration, or doubt cloud your judgement and can have the opposite effect, narrowing your focus and reinforcing limiting beliefs.
Your nervous system also plays a key part. Chronic stress and elevated cortisol can make it harder to think clearly, notice opportunities, or take aligned action. By calming and regulating your nervous system, you create a mental and emotional state that is more receptive to the outcomes you want to manifest.
This is why practices such as meditation, mindfulness, and breathing exercises are often recommended alongside manifestation techniques. They help you maintain emotional balance, focus your energy, and align your thoughts and assumptions with the reality you want to create.
Manifestation is not just about thinking or wishing—it’s about how you feel and the state you cultivate inside yourself, because that internal state ultimately guides your attention, decisions, and actions.
Attracting Through Energy and Intention
At its core, manifestation is about alignment—bringing your thoughts, beliefs, emotions, and actions into harmony with the reality you want to create. We are beings of energy, and everything around us is energy as well. The frequency we vibrate on naturally attracts experiences, people, and opportunities that match that same energy—for better or for worse.
When your internal state is positive, confident, and aligned with your desires, you naturally draw in situations that reflect that energy. Conversely, if your focus is on fear, lack, or negativity, your experiences will often mirror that as well. This is why practices like visualization, affirmations, and assumption-based thinking work best when combined with emotional and mental alignment—they help you vibrate at the frequency of what you wish to manifest.
Manifestation is not about forcing outcomes or controlling reality. Instead, it’s about cultivating an internal state that naturally attracts and supports the life you desire. (Hacking your life in a way.) When your thoughts, beliefs, emotions, and actions are aligned, the universe—or your own perception of reality—responds accordingly.
How to Manifest the Life You Desire
Manifestation becomes most powerful when you combine intention, belief, emotion, and aligned action. Here are some practical ways to apply the Law of Attraction and Law of Assumption in your daily life:
Clarify Your Desire
Be specific about what you want to manifest. Whether it’s a new job, a relationship, or personal growth, clarity helps focus your energy and attention. The more specific you are, the better! In spirituality, this also signals to the universe exactly what you want, leaving no room for error.Shift Your Assumptions
Identify the beliefs you currently hold about yourself and your life. Begin consciously assuming the reality you desire. Act, think, and feel as if it is already true.Visualize and Feel
Spend a few minutes each day imagining your desired outcome vividly. Engage all your senses and embody the emotions you would feel if your manifestation were already real. This helps align your energy with your intention.Practice Gratitude
Gratitude raises your vibration and reinforces the belief that good things are already present in your life. A daily gratitude practice can help keep your energy aligned with abundance rather than lack. It doesn’t have to be big, it just needs to be meaningful!Take Aligned Action
Manifestation is not passive. Your actions must reflect your assumptions and desires. Even small, intentional steps can create momentum toward your goals.Monitor Your Focus
Be mindful of where your attention goes and how you speak. Your brain naturally seeks patterns that match your focus. Subconsciously, it will highlight opportunities that align with your thoughts and assumptions—for better or for worse.Regulate Your Emotions
Practices like meditation, deep breathing, or mindfulness help maintain emotional balance, keeping your vibration high and your nervous system calm. This makes it easier to stay aligned with your desires.
By integrating these steps consistently, manifestation becomes a natural extension of your energy, beliefs, and actions, allowing you to attract experiences that reflect the life you want to create.
Manifestation is the process of aligning your inner world—thoughts, beliefs, emotions, and energy—with the reality you wish to create. By applying the Law of Attraction and the Law of Assumption, you can consciously shape your experiences and open yourself to opportunities that reflect your intentions.
We exist as beings of energy, and the world around us mirrors the vibration we carry. Whatever frequency you hold—whether positive or negative—naturally attracts corresponding experiences. In the beginning, this process may not feel easy. Old habits, limiting beliefs, and ingrained thought patterns can create resistance. Trust the process and remain consistent, even if results aren’t immediate.
By focusing on clarity, assuming the reality you desire, and taking intentional, aligned action, you create the conditions for your desires to unfold. Manifestation is not about forcing outcomes but about cultivating an internal state that naturally draws your desires into your life. When your energy, beliefs, and actions are in harmony, you step into a life that reflects who you truly are and what you are capable of creating! <3
